Reasons Why Christians should Pay Tithe

Christians should Pay Tithe. Through believers in Christ should pay tithe because it is covenant with God. What is Tithe? Tithe is one tenth of one’s income, though many uses the language of “tithes and offerings” in worship services. offering is different with tithe. Tithe is a command from God. The important of tithe cannot be over emphasized

Some believers are convinced on tithing (payment) while others are not convinced of tithing.  It good that believers pay their according to their income to avoid laying course upon themselves.

Which view of tithing is more faithful to God’s Word?

Most Christian today still believes that tithe is made for the Old Testament people and is from the Mosaic Law. While other believe that paying tithe attract the blessing of God.

The faithful’s should not be deceived because it is a command from God. The believers should know that it part of worship with God that should not be broke.

The argument whether tithing is required or even encouraged for believers in Jesus Christ should not be at all.

This is over ruled by God in Mal. 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”.

Tithing in the Old Testament (Christians should Pay Tithe)

What does the Old Testament say about tithing?

Abraham gave a tenth of his rewards of war to Melchizedek (Gen. 14:20).  Hebrews appeals to this account to support the superiority of Melchizedek’s priesthood over Levi’s (Heb. 7:4-10).

God met Jacob at Bethel and promised him covenant blessings; the patriarch promised God a tenth of everything granted him (Gen. 28:22).

A tenth of Israel’s seed, fruit, and flocks were given to the Lord (Lev. 27:30-32; Deut. 14:22-24; cf. 2 Chron. 31:5-6; Neh. 13:5, 12). The people gave a tenth to the Levites to support them (Num. 18:21-24; cf. Neh. 10:38; 12:44), and the Levites, in turn, were to give a tenth to the chief priest (Num. 18:25-28).

Those who didn’t tithe were curse, while those who pay tithe were promised blessing (Mal. 3:8-10).

We should know that those that pay the tithe are those that know God and obey Him.  Abraham, Jacob and People of Israel paid their tithe because they fear and obey Him.

Why Tithing Is Required Today

  • Tithe should be paid because we are descendant of Abraham and Jacob.
  • That God command us to pay tithe so that there will be food in His Storehouse. The churches are the house of the Lord today.
  • The Lord said that that does not pay tithe rob Him.
  • Those that does not pay tithe are coursed.
  • In tithe payment that God say try.
  • The Lord promises for those that pay tithe are enormous.
  • The Priest and Levites are still among us.

There are seven significant reasons that Christians are required to tithe.

  1. Jesus come to build but not destroy the good work (like tithing).

Some believers believed that tithe are under the Mosaic covenant. And quotes Rom. 6:14-15; 7:5-6; Gal. 3:15-4:7; 2 Cor. 3:4-18. But Jesus said for sin shall not have dominion over you. And for you are not under the law, but under grace. Does not state tithe should not be paid and so on.

  1. Abraham, Jacob and Israel are good examples of tithers.

Tithing is required because both Abraham and Jacob gave a tenth, we are their descendant.

Abraham’s tithe to Melchizedek was a one-time event; there is no evidence he regularly gave God a tenth. But you should think why did number of times that Jesus take bathe were not recorded in the bible. Does it mean Jesus didn’t bathe during His time? Reason that Abraham tithing was recorded once is not enough to say tithe are not required.

Jacob’s giving of a tenth signified his gratefulness to God for promising to be with him and to protect him. His gratefulness and generosity still speak to us today. But a historical description of what Jacob gave should support the idea that all believers must give God a tenth of their income.

  1. Tithes were given to the Levites and priests in storehouse, and Pastors and Levites are in Church.

Some believers claim from (1 Pet. 2:9; Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6) that they are  Pastors. And Jesus as our Melchizedekian high priest (Heb. 7).

1 Peter 2:9. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and holy nation, a peculiar people. You should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light and on. Does not make you a Pastor; who has the full time for doing work of God.

  1. The tithe is tied to covenant and Promises of the Lord. (Christians should Pay Tithe)

That those that obey and it shall not be under course rather will be blessed. That they will have no room to store them. When God said test Me on this you will obverse that He doesn’t Fail on His promise. That means He will surely bless those how honour and obey Him on tithing.

What are these promises from God Almighty?

These promises are:

  • God’s wisdom
  • Provisions
  • Protection
  • Promotion and e.t.c.
  1. If tithing is required today, how much should we give?

It is made clear one tenth of your income. People are being deceive because they fill that the money is too much to give to God. Or they fill that they are paying to Pastors while the tithe is for the growth and work of the Church.  From old testament till date tithers have never regretted. They have being within God’s blessings as promised by Almighty God. So their brothers it is batter to pay more than recommended the paying incomplete thereby robbing God.

  1. When Jesus affirmed the tithe, it was before the dawn of the new covenant.

Jesus praised tithing, even if he said it was less important than other things (Matt. 23:23; Luke 11:42). It is because people have left righteousness and focus on material things. Jesus also mentioned offering sacrifices in the temple. (Matt. 5:23-24). But Christians don’t think, even if the temple were rebuilt, that we should do that. Our Lord’s words are understandable when we think about his location in redemptive history.

Jesus spoke about sacrifices and tithing before the cross and resurrection, before the dawn of the new covenant. He used tithing and sacrifices as illustrations when addressing his contemporaries.

He kept the law since he was “born under the law” (Gal. 4:4). But we can not take His words as a commendation for tithing because He urges them to be righteous. He added more words about offering sacrifices and generous giving. Jesus want His people to give more because He observe that they focus more on only tithing.

  1. Nowhere is tithing mentioned is deceive statement when He commands to give generously as it is written.

People put them in defensive measure not to pay tithe. Thereby accruing courses as declared in the book of Malachi 3:8-9. If you don’t pay tithe your are rob God, not even man because tithe is own by Him.

Who is the robber before God?

Those that do not pay tithe. Malachi 3:8

When Christians are instructed to give to the poor, they aren’t commanded to give “the poor tithe.”

Instead, they are instructed to be generous in helping those in need. (Acts 2:43- 47; 4:32- 37; 11:27–30; Gal. 2:10; 1 Cor. 16:1- 4; 2 Cor. 8:1- 9:15).

For example, 1 Corinthians 16:1- 4. This passage support, to give more for poor saints in Jerusalem.

Reason Why Christians should Pay Tithe and Give Generously

We are commanded to support those who preach the gospel. (Matt. 10:10); (Luke 10:7;). (1 Cor. 9:6–14); (1 Tim. 5:17–18). That means we should not only pay tithe but still give offering and support preachers.

And while we should enjoy the good things God gives us, we are also called to be generous to those in need.(1 Tim. 6:17–19; 2 Cor. 8–9).

Wealth can so easily become an idol, leading us to abandon the Lord. If you serve your wealth instead your wealth to serve it have become an idol. God bless us with our wealth to serve us and for to use it and worship and glorify His name.

Since God is to be our treasure, believers are to give generously and freely. This means giving more than one tenth. When Children of God give freely and generously. We give without measure. The people of God rejoices to the glory of God.
