WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GIANTS
Walking in the footsteps of giants is going deep with sound spiritual mentors. Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. But be through child of God, who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
DRINKING FROM SPIRITUAL MENTORS
In the walk of faith, it’s advisable to drink from the rich depths of sound spiritual mentors God placed in our lives. This, however, is often taken to a wrong extreme.
This is because many Christians often presume that, to keep growing faster and higher in the faith, all we have to do is to just keep drinking all the time from the rich depths of our great teachers.
THE INFALLIBLE TRUTH OF WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GIANTS
Basically, the mindset behind such presumption is that, after all, these teachers had already taken the pains to discover those proven and infallible truths; and that they willingly share with us their exploits in faith, even in ways we could learn and apply those principles they caught in their exploits.
MAINTAINING GREAT GIANTS PERMANENTLY
Through association with such great teachers, mentors, and models, we see things clearer, even as we feed on their resources and resourcefulness.
But unfortunately, we are often tempted to permanently maintain a spot on the shoulders of such great giants.
THE TRUTH OF BORROWED GREAT HEIGHT
But the truth is that such “great height” is a BORROWED HEIGHT. It’s neither our actual height, nor our real size. In reality, we’ve not really grown any taller, for no man actually grows by standing on the shoulders of another.
EATING DIET AND PARTICIPATING IN A SPIRITUAL GIANT
This must be one of the reasons the Apostle Paul, in (Hebrews 6:11-12), desired that we be not slothful, that we don’t just aim at standing on the shoulders of giants for the rest of our lives. Rather, he admonished us to follow in the footsteps of those giants – eating those same diets and participating in those same spiritual disciplines that turned them into giants. By following in their footsteps, we, too, can become giants.
Don’t just stand on the shoulders of giants, Walk in their footsteps -become a giant yourself.
Lord, grant me the wisdom to follow in the footsteps of the saints of old.
